Dispatch Efficiency with New
Computer Aided Dispatch System
In April of 2010, the Stickney Police Department upgraded its Records Management System, or police report system, from an old DOS based report system that was originally created in the 1980’s to a new Windows based database. With help from the Justice Assistance Grant from Cook County through the national Stimulus, the police department was also able to purchase a Computer Aided Dispatch system. This system helps the telecommunicators in the 9-1-1 center in dispatching units on calls and documenting all calls for service that come into the
9-1-1 center. For the first time ever in the police department’s history, the dispatchers are able to keep accurate track of responding units, allowing for more efficient response to request for service.
With the addition of the Computer Aided Dispatch or CAD system the police department is now able to offer a Premise Alert Program to the residents of the Village of Stickney. This program allows our residents to keep emergency medical information on file that would assist the responders in responding to their request for help.
Grant Funds Improve Police Technology and Officer Safety
In August of 2010, the Stickney Police Department will be installing new technology thanks to a grant from Cook County Justice Assistance Grant program. The Department will purchase and install five new laptop computers that will come complete with a mobile version of the computer aided dispatch (CAD) and allow officers access to the records management system (RMS) or police reports from their squad cars. One of our biggest additions, is the use of a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system and mapping that will allow the 9-1-1 center and
the other police units to know the location of the active police cars at all times. This will help improve officer safety. Many times in an emergency, an officer may only be able to ask for help on the radio, with this system, everyone will be able to see where the help is needed and not have to guess on the officer’s location. If you are interested in this new technology, please stop by and see the booth at the Village of Stickney Family Day on September 5, 2010, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Our vender, Intelligent Solutions, Inc. will have a demonstration car with a computer showing the public our new technology, along with a computer monitor that will have a live version of the CAD system running for you to see.
